A lot of Capitol Hill photography boils down to pictures of grumpy old white dudes talking and signing things, but sometimes they are actually signing something important. In this case, I was covering the signing of the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention act for my old client the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Association (IAVA). I was working on this project for a long time with the IAVA, meeting Clay's parents and beating the pavement around Capitol Hill with them as they advocated for the bill. I went to private meetings with Senators and Members of Congress, attended events, photographed IAVA training sessions, shot group portraits at the White House, and now finally I was seeing all the hard work come to fruition.
